What happens if one module fails?
In Aurashu variable speed scroll air-cooled modular units, system reliability is one of the core design priorities. If one module fails, the system is engineered to continue operating safely and efficiently without complete shutdown, ensuring uninterrupted cooling or heating for critical applications.
Each Aurashu modular unit operates as an independent refrigeration module, equipped with its own inverter-driven scroll compressor, electronic expansion valve, control board, and protection system. When multiple modules are combined, they are connected through Aurashu’s intelligent master–slave control architecture, allowing real-time communication and coordinated operation.
If a module experiences a fault—such as abnormal pressure, electrical protection activation, or compressor malfunction—the system responds in several layers:
1. Automatic fault isolation
The faulty module is immediately isolated from the system. Refrigerant circuits and electrical components of the affected module are shut down independently, preventing fault propagation to other modules.
2. Continuous operation of remaining modules
All healthy modules continue operating normally. The master controller dynamically redistributes the load among available modules, ensuring stable chilled water or hot water output. This design avoids total system downtime, which is critical for hospitals, data centers, commercial buildings, and industrial processes.
3. Intelligent capacity compensation
Aurashu’s variable-speed technology allows remaining modules to automatically adjust compressor speed to partially compensate for lost capacity. While total output may be reduced depending on system redundancy, the system maintains the highest possible efficiency under the new operating condition.
4. Real-time alarm and diagnostics
The control system provides clear fault codes and operational status via the local controller or BMS interface (BACnet/Modbus optional). Maintenance teams can quickly identify the failed module without affecting the rest of the system.
5. Easy maintenance and fast recovery
Because modules are standardized and independent, service technicians can repair or replace the faulty module without shutting down the entire system. Once restored, the module can be reintegrated seamlessly, and the system automatically resumes optimized load sharing.
6. Designed redundancy for high-demand applications
Aurashu modular systems are often configured with N+1 or multi-module redundancy. This ensures that even during a module failure, critical cooling or heating demands are still met within acceptable limits.
In summary, a single module failure does not compromise system stability or safety. Aurashu’s modular philosophy transforms traditional chiller systems from single-point-failure risks into highly reliable, flexible, and service-friendly solutions, making them ideal for projects that demand continuous operation and long-term reliability.
